Cover thumbnailer is a small Python script which displays music album covers in nautilus, preview of pictures which are in a folder and more.

The script fits in nautilus like any other thumbnailer of the GNOME thumbnail factory; so you don't have to run it manually to generate thumbnails.

Cover thumbnailer is free software under GNU GPL v3+ license, you are free to modify and redistribute it under the terms of the license.

Cover thumbnailer is currently available in more than 15 languages (list).

The lastest version is the 0.8.1. You can download any older version on the repository.

NOTE : you have to restart nautilus after the install : nautilus -q && nautilus & exit

Ubuntu Package :

From karmic, you can add the PPA with the following command :

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:flozz/flozz

next, uptate your packages list :

sudo apt-get update

and then install the cover-thumbnailer package :

sudo apt-get install cover-thumbnailer

Cover thumbnailer is available in the NuTyX ports. It can be installed by typing the following command (as root) in your terminal :

prt-get depinst cover-thumbnailer

Using

Cover thumbnailer creates thumbnails when you visit your folders.

« Music » folder

Just put any picture in the folder and Cover thumbnailer will use it.

« Pictures » folder

Cover thumbnailer takes the three first pictures it found in the folder, and use them for the thumbnail..

Other folders

Put a picture with a name like Cover.png, folder.jpg, or .cover.png in the folder, and Cover thumbnailer will use this picture as thumbnail for the folder.

Configuration

For configuring Cover Thumbnailer, you just have to use the graphical configuration tool.

It was avalables in the menu : "System → Preferences → Cover Thumbnailer".

Or with this command :
